About the Podcasts
Girls Talk Math campers work in small groups on two related projects. Their first task is to completed a problem set on one of a variety of advanced mathematics topics and share their results through blog posts. The second task is to research the life of a female mathematician whose work related to the same area of study as the problem set. Each group then creates and records a short podcast discussing their mathematician’s life and work.
The purpose of the podcasts is to highlight the reality that women have always been doing math and to learn about the difficulties successful female mathematicians have faced and overcome. Additionally, by creating their own digital media, the campers have the opportunity to share what they discover so others can learn about these inspiring women as well. Check out their amazing podcasts!
Girls Talk Math featured in Femmes of STEM Podcast
Femmes of STEM is a podcast about the history of women in science and math. One of our co-founders, Francesca Bernardi, was a guest on the podcast. She discussed the life of mathematician Sofya Kovalevskya and the Girls Talk Math podcast in episode 8. The podcast host, Michelle Barboza-Ramirez from the University of Florida, listened to several of our campers’ podcasts and was so impressed, she decided to feature some of them in a bonus episode of the podcast series!
