The 26 high school girls who attended the Summer 2016 run of Girls Talk Math worked in small groups on two related projects. Their first task was to completed a problem set that fit into one of four categories : relativity, cryptography, mathematical modeling, and scientific computing and share their results through blog posts. The second task was to research the life of a female mathematician whose work related to the same area of study as the problem set. Each group then created and recorded a short podcast discussing their mathematician’s life and work.
The purpose of the podcasts was to highlight the reality that women have been doing math forever and to learn about the difficulties successful female mathematicians have faced and overcome. Additionally, by creating digital media, the campers had the opportunity to share what they discovered so others can learn about these amazing women as well. Check out their amazing podcasts below!
